Chef Julia
My Daily Smoothie — the one I actually drink every morning

People ask me what I eat in a day more than almost anything else, and this is where it starts. It is not a treat smoothie — it is deliberately built to get a lot of good things into one glass before the day gets away from me.
It looks like a long ingredient list, but most of it is spoonfuls of seeds and powders that live in one cupboard. Once they are all in the same place it takes about three minutes.

A few things that matter
- The black pepper is not decoration. It dramatically increases how much curcumin your body absorbs from the turmeric.
- Freeze the banana in chunks. It is what makes the texture thick rather than watery.
- Start the blender low and build up, or the seeds fly to the sides and never break down.

Method
- Place the soy milk, banana and 5 or 6 ice cubes in a high-speed blender, such as a Vitamix.
- Add the rest of the ingredients.
- Start on low power and increase gradually as the ingredients combine. Once combined well, turn the speed to high.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a couple tablespoons of water.
- Pour into a large container and drink right away.

Notes
The black pepper is not optional if you want the turmeric to do its job — it dramatically increases curcumin absorption.
